1.) Problem Statement Boko Haram Has Become A Rapidly

1.) Problem Statement: Boko Haram has become a rapidly increasing threat to Northern Africa and the surrounding areas. There radical Islamic ideology has made them a serious threat to many North African nations who share similar ideologies, as well as a serious threat to the South African nations who are predominantly Christian. 2.) Background: Boko Haram is an Islamic terrorist organization that originated in Nigeria in 2002. Since the conception of Boko Haram, various attacks have been upheld against Christian venues as well as many organizations that associate with Western values. Since 2009 Boko has claimed attacks on Nigeria’s police, military, rival clerics, politicians, schools, religious buildings, public institutions, and†¦show more content†¦The current leader of Boko Haram is Abubakar Shekau. Shekau took over power in 2009 after the death of Boko Haram former leader, Mohammed Yusuf. Yusuf is credited with being the founder of Boko Haram back in 2002. He worked closely with Shekau from 2002 until 2009 when he was killed in a Boko uprising, where he was detained by the Nigerian police and killed. Shekau then took the reins of the Islamic radical group. Since 2009 Shekau has been reported dead multiple times, yet he remains alive. The most recent case of this has occurred when the Nig erian Air Force bombed the radicals and reported Shekau as â€Å"fatally wounded†. Shekau then released a video of himself months later proving that he was alive and well. Shekau has pledged allegiance to ISIL and loyalty does their work across Northern Africa in an attempt to establish an Islamic caliphate in Africa. b.) Military Capabilities: It is very difficult to determine the strength of Boko Haram. They do not report any formal information on strength or capabilities. All data is merely a speculation. â€Å"Local and international experts put the number at anywhere between 5,000 and 50,000 active fighters. This latter figure is almost certainly far too big.† (War is Boring). These speculations do not provide any pertinent information regarding the Boko Haram regime. They are far too vague to provide any use. This has forced analyst to be more creative in how they go about determining the capabilities of the radicals. They do

The Soloist by Steve Lopez free essay sample

The Soloist by Steve Lopez On the inner city streets of Los Angeles, you wouldn’t expect to find much inside of the homeless community besides dirty, begging people asking for change and any help they can get. But this wasn’t the case for one encounter that author Steven Lopez had. Steven has stumbled upon a man named Nathaniel Ayers. He for sure was homeless, but he offered a gift that many people anywhere in the world didn’t have. This homeless African American man was a violin prodigy, playing on the streets looking for any tips he could have received. But no one seemed to stop and see just how much raw talent Nathaniel had. This is where Steve Lopez came into play. Steve talked to Ayers and he told him that he had gone to school to study classical music. But his classes were cut very short because of a mental disorder that Nathaniel deals with called schizophrenia. We will write a custom essay sample on The Soloist by Steve Lopez or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This illness quickly landed him on the streets with his music talent, but no money. Lopez is extremely moved by the man and wants to work with him to get his life back together, and get him to be the vibrant violinist he once was. However, Lopez has to find a way to deal with the problems faced by Nathaniel’s schizophrenia, and make sure that he is once again ready to face the world with his beautiful talent. As we see further into the story, Nathaniel seems to be much more calm from his illness when he plays his music. As if he goes into another world and forgets everything else around him. Do you think his music is a solution to his schizophrenia? Nathaniel chooses not to have any actual medication for the treatment. And it seems as if music is the cure. Another thing I noticed is that when Steve and Nathaniel first meet, Steve is nothing more than interested in Nathaniel’s case and what his past was. Has Steve become a bigger part of Nathaniel’s life as the story progresses? The book offers many questions to be answered but also leaves you with a heartwarming story about a man reaching out to show the world that there is more to people than what the eye perceives.

the Hand That Signed the Paper Analysis free essay sample

†Autobiographical Essar Humans are not born knowing what is right and what is wrong, we learn these things through our experiences and our mistakes. Though these mistakes could be as simple as spilling a glass of milk, we still learn an important lesson; dont set the glass on the corner of the table. I myself have had many of these mishaps, but one seems to stand out from all the rest. I have these neighbors, they own a large piece of property that my friends and I enjoy spending time on, however, these neighbors are what you would call, Jerks. We had a few interactions and in the end we sort of trashed their property.. My friends are idiots, sometimes we get together and do stupid things, in this case though, we went a bit overboard. I was about 12 or 13 at the time and had taken a liking to forms of destructive behavior. We will write a custom essay sample on the Hand That Signed the Paper Analysis or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page It Just happened to be trash day, and my dad had an abundance of tools such as sledgehammers and axes in the shed. My friends and I gathered up a large pile of garbage and constructed a huge mass of couches, chairs, desks, wood, and many other things in the woods on my neighbors property. We then proceded to smash everything in to bits and make a widespread mess of the area. As most kids would do, we ran, and didnt hear anything of it for days. It wasnt until after about a week that my doorbell rang. Who else could it be but the owners of that property come to speak with my parents. My mom and dad were furious, and i recieved no mercy in my punishment. I spent days, along with two of my friends, cleaning up the mess. I suspect we must have gathered three or four trashcans worth of garbage in the end. Weeks went by and i realized how disrespectful my actions were, I eventually ummoned up the courage to visit the home of my neighbors and apologize to them face to face. They graciously accepted my apology and we patred ways on friendly terms. Hearing them thank me for the cleanup Job and for having enough respect to say i was sorry was a great feeling that i wont forget. That experience led me to realize the importance of showing respect for others and their property, Its an example i am proud to share, of a lesson I learned through my personal mistakes, and I hope others too, have learned to show respect for others. he Hand That Signed the Paper Analysis By aJoycem The Hand That Signed the Paper consists of four stanzas that harshly mock the cold and unfriendliness present of politics and conflict. In my opinion this poem is about war, revealing the speakers disgust for political leaders overall. The poet makes audience feel as though the hand that signed the paper is worthless or despicable. These overpowering fgures with in the poem seem to be important and arrogant for putting themselves in a powerful, life or death situation. The first stanza is notifying he audience that a simple signing of this document sets off a tragic and irreversible outcome. Double the globe of dead and halved a country; These five kings did a king to death (Stanza 1, Line3-4) is referring to the decision to execute the king and to a country splitting up in the processes. The second stanza mocks the mighty hand (Stanza 2, Line 5) that is responsible for these terrible outcomes by using descriptive words, such as, sloping shoulder (Stanza 2, Line 5). Also, the poet is telling the audience that the man in the poem has arthritis when he says, The finger oints are crammed with chalk; (Stanza 2, Line 6). This information I find to be useless to the meaning of the poem, but when the speaker says, A gooses quill has put an end to murder I believe he is giving away what the documentation really is, a peace treaty. In the third stanza, the poet informs the audience that the peace treaty has not solved anything; times are extremely awful. With good intentions, the man signed the peace treaty to solve the suffering brought on by war, but instead it has caused more damage. And famine grew, and locusts came (Stanza 3, Line 10) is telling the readers that the country has an extreme amount of people suffering of hunger and disease. The last stanza compassionately informs the reader that politicians act very inhumane. Politicians like to think of themselves as God, maintaining absolute control over who are to live and who are to be destroyed. Dylan Thomas incorporated human body relations in his work. He accomplished this by using parts of the human body and certain characteristic features to make the reader elieve that the body parts are made to act as if they are making a conscious choices and decisions. An example of this is in the title of Thomass work, The Hand that Signed the Paper. This title is referring to the hand as if it would be acting freely of its owner. Other examples of this are, fingers taxed the breath (Stanza 1, Line 2), Great is the hand that holds dominion over Man by a scribbled name (Stanza 2, Line 11-12), and A hand that rules pity as a hand rules heaven (Stanza 4, Line 15). With in this poem there are relating words and repetition used as a poetic devices. Murder (Stanza 2, Line 3) and did a king to death (Stanza 2, Line 4) have identical meanings. Also within the poem, there are synonyms: paper (Stanza 1, Line 1) and treaty (Stanza 3, Line 9). I believe that Thomas used these relating words to put direct attention on them, indicating particular importance to the actual message of the poem. There is one example of foreshadowing consisting within the poem, The Hand That Signed the Paper, which is ultimately referring to the speakers actions that are going to take place with in the poem. The Hand that Signed the Paper has a rhyme scheme of: ABAB, and the first and third lines of each stanza are iambic pentameter, but with an eleventh, unstressed syllable. Near the end of the poem, in changes the rhyme scheme in the poem trying to accomplish a different pace, therefore making it more intriguing. In the end Dylan Thomas accomplished writing a very intriguing-meaningful poem. It is exciting reading between the lines of this poets work, and truly finding the real meaning of the poem: a powerful politician whom brought disaster to a country and its population.

Why the North Won the Civil War essays

Why the North Won the Civil War essays Just judging from the tale of the tape immediately before the Second American Revolution broke out, it is amazing that the South managed to battle so valiantly for so long, dragging out the fight for several years, before finally being forced to give in to the North. The North possessed a tremendous numerical superiority, industrial advantages that allowed them to gain a technological advantage, and a complex system of railways and canals that allowed for easy transportation of troops and equipment. It was these logistical advantages that gave them the edge over the South to win the war, and they proved ultimately more valuable than brilliant officers, skilled soldiers, and popular support; all of which the South had in its corner. Cultural differences between the North and South dating back to the colonial era certainly were a factor contributing to the outbreak of war, but they indirectly contributed to its outcome as well. The South always had a strong desire to preserve its agricultural roots, rather than rapidly moving towards manufacturing, and industry, as the North did. During the years preceding the war, the North experienced a sudden influx of European immigrants, who quickly found low-paying jobs in factories. These immigrants avoided the South, because it would be almost impossible to find employment, due to its lack of industry, and availability of slaves. The South depended much more heavily on the North than vice versa, and in essence, it crippled itself by severing ties with the rest of the Union. This new Confederacy was ill equipped to be an independent nation; they were merely a collection of agricultural states. Just looking at the numbers, the North beat out the South in nearly every category. The population of the North in 1860 was approximately twenty-two million, compared to a population of only nine million in the seceding states. This factor alone allowed generals such as Ulysses S. Grant, o...

Missing Out on Work Experience Avoid it: Internships and work-study programs provide students with real-life business knowledge, valuable contacts, and, often, a new job. Since many online MBA programs dont require that students spend their summers interning for major corporations, some students simply forgo this opportunity. But, dont let this chance get away! Even if you already have a job you may still be able to get an internship for a brief period of time or during irregular hours.

Technology impact on the organization Research Paper

Technology impact on the organization - Research Paper Example Factors of production include the inputs required in the production process in order to accomplish an organization’s objective in achieving its desired output. The desired output may be a finished product or a service depending on the organization. They include labor, capital, land and enterprise or entrepreneurship (Lee & Edgar, 2002). This makes technological progress the mover of development in the economy. Labor in an organization is termed as either skilled labor or unskilled labor. Most organizations will prefer the use of unskilled labor as much as possible since it is cheaper as compared to skilled labor. It is also in many instances readily available. On the other hand, skilled labor is needed, especially where technology brings in the aspect of automation in processing. Capital is the initial amount of money required to carry out organization affairs. Depending on the investment targeted, an organization requires variant amount of capital. An organization with an automated computer controlled process cannot have the same amount of investment with another of the same kind. Initial cost of high technology is high, but this ends up becoming economical due to efficiency and high productivity in processing. This is a basic factor that deals with the management of a company. Workers in the managerial positions and are conversant with high grade technology know how to bring out better results.
